“SPT Responds to Call for Emergency Ship to Ship Transfer “

On Monday, February 24^th, 2009 the SPT Crusader performed an emergency lightering operation with the Yasa Golden Dardanelles. The Yasa Golden Dardanelles had grounded 28 miles from Galveston on Friday, February 20^th.

SPT Mooring Master Captain Dave Edwards directed the operation with the Captain of the SPT Crusader, Captain H. P. DeVitre. The SPT Crusader was brought alongside the Yasa Golden Dardanelles in the early afternoon. By early evening 83,000 bbls of fuel oil had been transferred from the Yasa Golden Dardanelles to the SPT Crusader. The SPT Crusader separated and departed the scene a couple hours later. The operation was completed without injury to personnel, no spillage of oil to the environment and no damage to the vessels. The SPT Crusader discharged the fuel oil in Houston on Wednesday, February 25^th.

SPT Inc. participated in the unified command responding to the incident alongside the USCG, other federal and state agencies having an interest, representatives of the QI and Titan Marine.

Title: Mooring Master Description: Key Responsibilities: This position manages ocean-going oil tanker lightering operations to ensure that safe and environmentally sound operating procedures and weather parameters are followed. The Mooring Master ensures that officers of both the lightering vessel and the vessel to be lightered are familiar with and comply with safety requirements; advises masters of both tankers in same manner as a pilot; supervises vessels’ approach, maneuvering into final position, mooring, positioning of the lightering hoses; monitors the transfer of oil into the lightering vessel to ensure that no leaks or spills occur, and supervises the disengagement of hoses and maneuvering of vessels upon completion of the operation. Houston Food Bank On December 11, 2009, employees of SPT Inc. volunteered at the Houston Food Bank, a private non-profit organization that seeks food donations and distributes to local charitable programs. Through this charitable giving, the Houston Food Bank is able to provide food for 80,000 different people each week. To better help the Houston Food Bank deliver food to those in need, our team members volunteered their time in the central warehouse sorting and packaging donated food items into boxes that will feed a family of four for one week.
