The Texas General Land Office (GLO) presented its annual OSPRA Award to SPT The Texas General Land Office (GLO) presented its annual OSPRA Award to SPT Inc., a ship to ship transfer company located in Houston, TX. The OSPRA Award was established by the GLO, the oldest state agency in Texas, to recognize organizations that have excelled in their efforts to comply with the state’s Oil Spill Prevention and Response Act (OSPRA) of 1991. The agency’s primary functions include managing state lands and mineral rights, leasing drilling rights for oil and gas production and protecting the state’s natural resources. “SPT Gives Back to the Community in 2009” Houston, Texas - During this season of giving, SPT Inc. continues to uphold our commitment to the community through volunteering and gift donation. Houston Food Bank On December 11, 2009, employees of SPT Inc. volunteered at the Houston Food Bank, a private non-profit organization that seeks food donations and distributes to local charitable programs. Through this charitable giving, the Houston Food Bank is able to provide food for 80,000 different people each week. To better help the Houston Food Bank deliver food to those in need, our team members volunteered their time in the central warehouse sorting and packaging donated food items into boxes that will feed a family of four for one week. “SPT Responds to Call for Emergency Ship to Ship Transfer “

On Monday, February 24^th, 2009 the SPT Crusader performed an emergency lightering operation with the Yasa Golden Dardanelles. The Yasa Golden Dardanelles had grounded 28 miles from Galveston on Friday, February 20^th.

SPT Mooring Master Captain Dave Edwards directed the operation with the Captain of the SPT Crusader, Captain H. P. DeVitre. The SPT Crusader was brought alongside the Yasa Golden Dardanelles in the early afternoon. By early evening 83,000 bbls of fuel oil had been transferred from the Yasa Golden Dardanelles to the SPT Crusader. The SPT Crusader separated and departed the scene a couple hours later. The operation was completed without injury to personnel, no spillage of oil to the environment and no damage to the vessels. The SPT Crusader discharged the fuel oil in Houston on Wednesday, February 25^th.

SPT Inc. participated in the unified command responding to the incident alongside the USCG, other federal and state agencies having an interest, representatives of the QI and Titan Marine.

SPT is a fully dedicated lightering company operating out of Houston, TX. In the last 20 years, we have performed more than 10,000 operations, transferring over 6 billion barrels of crude oil and petroleum products. On a daily basis, we lighter 1.1 million barrels of crude a day, or 15 percent of all seaborne crude oil into U.S. ports.

1916: Isak Martinius Skaugen established his company D/S-A/S
1929: Contracted to build first tanker with diesel engine
1940: Fleet placed under the control of exiled Norwegian government in the UK during World War II; Only two vessels survived
1946: Replacing lost tonnage and established new trade routes from the US west coast to the Far East
1950-1959: Vessels carry 170,000 World War II refugees to Australia
1960s: First foray into large scale transfers at sea; Founded Norwegian Bulk Carrier (NBC), which reached 100,000 DWT vessels
1968-1988: Enters cruise business and founded Royal Caribbean Cruise Line; Commissioned fleet of 4 new bulk carriers to serve large freight contracts to shallow ports
1970s: Contracted with Ford Motors and built car decks in bulk carriers
1974: Owned tonnage released and replaced by chartered vessels; Established Skaugen Offshore and Skaugen Drilling
1981-1988: "Pure Car Carrier" designed and built
1988-2000: I.M. Skaugen went public and registered; Established Norwegian Gas Carriers (now Norgas); Established Jahre Skaugen Carriers to provide bulk carrier tonnage to service long-term shipment of iron ore from Brazil to Japan
2003: SPT is a jointly owned company of I.M. Skaugen (50 percent) and Teekay Shipping Corporation (50 percent).
2006: SPT performed the world’s first commercial lightering operation of LNG
2007: Long-term bareboat charter commenced with delivery of SPT Champion; SPT expanded into Europe, Russia and West Africa markets
